Fundamentals of Neurology An Illustrated Guide 9783131364524 Medicine Health Science Books
I am deeply interested in Neurology and have read and studied several neurology textbooks over the course of the years. I paid particular attention to the common textbooks Adams and Bradley's neurology, but also explored less common books, which can hide good surprises. I have read and studied several others (clinical neurology, Harrison's neurology in clinical practice, Patten neurological differential diagnosis, etc). I developed extreme sensibility on neurology education and I am confident in my personal opinion, as a medical student, doctor and passionate scientist.Fundamentals of neurology is, in my opinion, one of the best clinical neurology textbook out there. There are several characteristics that made it that way:
- It is written with extreme coherence throughout every chapter, by only two neurologists and not an enormous numbers of doctors/professors: this makes the book very well organized and logical compared to other textbooks.
- It focus on the high-yield of the subject, without going too deep ito useless details (like Bradley and Adams). However, it does give perfect summaries of less common diseases, enough for the medical student, general physicians or the busy neurologist.
- Each chapter is accompanied with an interesting clinical case. Each paragraph is summarized briefly with important points.
- The first part gives a wonderful introduction of neurological exam and neuroanatomy, hard to find in any other textbook except for "neuroanatomy through clinical cases". The second part, instead, is focused on a very well organized description of neurological diseases.
- The pictures are clear, beautiful, numerous, and integrate perfectly with the text.
- The text is updated, and gives you relevant informations for medical students and even experienced neurologist who wants to review the subject.
- Less important, but still relevant: the book is small, light, in contrast with the huge neurological tomes we are used to.
I'm convinced that "neuroanatomy through clinical cases", "neurological differential diagnosis" (by patten) and "Fundamentals of Neurology" are the best books for the medical student and the physician who is looking for a intelligent and clear picture of the subject.
